Music: Yesterday & Today

Yesterday I was driving home with Sara and a song came on the radio she liked. She turns it up a little which I don't mind at all. I like the song too but I'm really not sure how appropriate it is for my 13yo daughter. I start thinking back to when I was her age and a song came to mind that I absolutely loved. Here's the song I loved, although I was probably a few years younger than Sara:

Now here's the song that came on the radio yesterday:

Now they are 2 different songs but here are my thoughts:

"We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off" by Jermaine Stewart
This song talks about couples can have fun without having to get naked and having sex. Now when I was a tween and listing to this song, I had no clue that's what it meant. I always asked myself "why would you have to take your clothes off to have fun?" Well, now that I'm an adult, I know why.

"Addicted" by Saving Abel
This song talks about the guy being addicted to the girl sexually (in an oral sex way) and when I found this video on YouTube I couldn't believe my eyes! I haven't watched rock videos in some time and OMG are they reveiling! So I wonder does Sara know exactly what this song is about when she hears it? We have had the 'sex and where babies come from' talk several times. But now that I really think about it she is 13yo! A teenager! I've heard stories about 13yo getting pregnant! As far as I know she hasn't had a boyfriend. We do talk and I hope she will open up to me when the time comes, when it's her first date and down the road, far away, when she feels she is ready for sex. (I pray it's on her wedding night.) Sexual material, whether it's music, movies or magazines are too easily accessible these days. Having an open relationship with your child by talking I think will help them with making a wise decision. And not only with sexual situations but in anything with friends, jobs, hobbies. I pray everyday I'm raising Sara to become a good person who values herself. We've all been teenagers before and know what we are capable of. That's scary!!
