Emergency Contact Info

Last night the home phone rings. I do not recognize the phone # and it listed the name as "Florida." It was a local # so I answered it. It happen to be a wrong #. A minute later the lady calls back asking if I was a relative of someone and I said no I do not know this someone. She said my phone # was listed as an emergency contact for this lady. I said I'm sorry I cannot help. Then this morning the phone rings at 6:15am and the caller ID said University Community Hospital. My first thought was "my dad!" He had some heart issues earlier this year but thank god no heart attack. Was close but doctors caught it in time. So of course I pick up the phone in a panic but they were looking for this lady again. I calmly said no that he had the wrong #. He asked if I was a relative of the other lady but I explained no that someone called last night for same info. He apologized and we hung up. 10 minutes later the hospital calls again, another person this time, asking for the same people. I explain the situation, apologized I couldn't help and hung up. So there is a lady in the hospital very, very ill or dead and their only emergency contact info is a lady with my phone #. I said a prayer this morning for this poor stranger and if she's passed, may she rest in peace.

So the lesson learned here is always make sure your emergency contact info is up-to-date. With every doctor, your employment, any groups/clubs you belong to, anywhere! If you are here in Florida and hold a FL drivers license or ID, you can designate emergency contacts so if god for bid you get into a fatal accident, your emergency contacts can be notified in a timely manner. The link above will take you to how this FL service became and directs you to where you can enter your emergency contact info.
