The Thing Part Duex

I've lacked blogging lately because life is getting in the way. Over the weekend I brought my Girl Scouts camping. Was fun. Now I'm stuck in jury duty. Fun--kinda not. Judge says tomorrow it should end. I had trouble keeping my eyes open this morning. It's interesting but the bad part is knowing that all my work is piling up back at the office.

So the conclusion of The Thing (aka Sara's crawfish.) We came home Friday afternoon to find him floating. He's not suppose to float. Sara poked him. He bobbled in the water. So I prepared for the crawfish funeral. Sara got his lifeless body from the tank; me and both dogs gathered in the bathroom and as Sara dropped him in the toilet we wished him a better life in crawfish heaven. *sniff, sniff*

The Thing

So this morning a little after 6am I'm in the kitchen making Joe's coffee. The office which is next to the kitchen I see something on the floor. At first it looked like a huge lizard but kinda smooshed on the floor. I couldn't actually walk in the office to turn the light on cuz then it would put me near this thing and I didn't want any surprises. I'm not a morning person so I was sure my eyes were playing with me but I wasn't taking any chances.

Finally both dogs are awake and ready to go outside. To get to the back door you have to walk thru the office. So I let the dogs walk thru first. JayJay stops to sniff the thing and it moved!! Since I was more awake I walked near it and turned the light on. I'm yelling to Joe to get his behind in there because he needs to clean the thing up. He walks in saying "it's just dust." I'm like no it moved. So I took a pad of paper and touched it and it moved! Well to cut this story down it turned out to be Sara's crawfish. It was covered in dust. Here he is rescued:

This thing hopped out of Sara's fishtank from her bedroom, crawled thru her room, under her door, thru the dinning room, thru the kitchen and then found himself in the office. Sara has been keeping the lid of the fishtank off because the filter is so loud. Which I've told her the fish need that filter on. But anyways, this crawfish decided to take an adventure. An adventure that might kill him. When I put him back in the tank he was floating. I guess we'll find out when we get home this afternoon if he makes it.

Kenny or the Animals?

I finally put my last book of checks in my checkbook the other day. I don't write checks too often as it took me 2 and half years to use 200 checks. I will need to order more checks soon but I have a dilima. I am a huge fan of Kenny Chesney. I love his music and he is sooooo hot! I saw a newspaper ad for Kenny checks about a year ago that I held on to just for this situation.

I also am a huge animal lover and supporter of the Humane Society. And here's those checks:

Even though check designs are more just for your personal opinion and who really cares what the check looks like as long as its worth the money that is written on it, right? Especially for someone who rarely uses them. But I've decided I want design. I'm a creative person. (hence going into graphic design; duh) So what do I pick? Hot Kenny or the cutie animals? Decisions decision!

Bark in the Park: 2 Paws Up!

Saturday was Bark in the Park. What a great day it was! The sun was shining (was a little hot but thank goodness for pavilions and tree shade!) and there were tons of dogs with their humans. Faithful pet owners and animal lovers helped raise $72,000 for the Humane Society of Tampa Bay! There were many sponsors and vendors booths set up advertising their pet-friendly products and services. Lots of freebies given away too! Polly racked up on treats and a bunch of new toys and I scored a few coupons. Sara even got a free t-shirt! The mobile adoption van was there with several dogs from the shelter that volunteers walked around with "adopt me" shirts on. There was a costume contest (cutest outfit and owner look-alike); dog bathing station, dog treat hunt station and so much more!

I helped out at the dog treat hunt station. We spread hay down and buried treats all in it. The dogs loved it! And once Polly realized there were treats in the hay that's all she wanted. I'm surprised she didn't get sick that afternoon with all the treats she ate. She didn't even eat dinner that night! Polly was so well behaved that day. She sat on the picnic table without her leash attached just chilling. She was VERY attached to Sara. If Sara moved more than 3 feet away Polly would stand up and start crying. Polly is usually a social butterfly wanting to make friends with everyone. At first she wasn't too sure what was going on. Once she realized that all the humans were trying to give her treats she opened up some. She wore her shirt that says "Cute on the outside, psycho inside." Everyone loved her. It took her half way thru the event to sniff other dogs. Sara and I were so proud of her. I still can't get over how well behaved she was. No one will ever believe us now that she really is a psycho dog at home. lol.

Dogs hunting for treats

(Lisa: Sara wore your shirt there!)

This is Polly and Monte. Monte is a Basset Hound owned by a lady from the shelter. He hung out with us at the dog treat station. Both of them were being camera-shy.

Dog bath station: Polly was not thrilled about this one.

I even ran into a friend I haven't seen in a long, long time! She happens to volunteer at the shelter too and got put in the same station! It was a wonderful day and am already looking forward to next year!

Bark in the Park

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay's annual Bark in the Park is Saturday. Sara and I are looking forward to it. I will be volunteering at the dog treat hunt area and Sara will be enjoying the festivities with Polly. JayJay has to stay home because he is not a social butterfly. So if you're feeling in the giving mood please visit Sara's site and make a donation. Even if it's only $5 every cent will help. If you are in the Tampa area, come join the fun!

I must remember my camera. It will be a fun day full of a bunch of furry cuties!!

Being Mommy

Sara has been sick since Friday. She's had fevers, cough, sore throat and tiredness. We've made her stay in bed all weekend. Today I allowed her to stay home from school to hopefully kick it out because tomorrow she has FCATs at school. Don't want to miss those. So Saturday while Joe went to play golf I went grocery shopping (a task I really don't care to do). We didn't go the previous week so we had nothing to eat. Really there was nothing. Along with buying the foods we normally keep in the house and stuff for our planned dinners for the week I threw in a bag of donuts, 2 packages of oreos (because they were 2/$5) and 2 packages of Klondike bars (they were BOGO). I usually don't buy this stuff but I figure the donuts were a quick breakfast for Sara, the oreos were for her lunch (it was either that or more GS cookies but Joe said to go with the oreos since more cookies come in the package than GS cookie. He happened to call while I was staring at the oreos.) The Klondike bars were because coldness felt good to Sara's throat with it being sore and who can pass up a BOGO deal? Well Joe informed me Sunday that Sara told him I bought too much junk food. Yes me, Ms. Healthy bought too much junk food. Coming from my 13yo daughter. So last night I mentioned it to Sara and she laughed and said she didn't mean it mean but that normally I would not buy that stuff. Well Joe helped me realize what I did. The nurturing mother came out of me and I wanted to make my sick baby happy.

For those of you who follow my health blog, this so goes against what I blogged about today there. lol. I really did buy the "junk" food for Sara. Now if I get an urge to taste the "junk" food I will do so in moderation then get some activity in to burn it off.

Happy Monday!

Ppffffftt...Excuse Me!

My family is quite open about our natural gases. We have one rule: at dinnertime we do not discuss our natural body wastes (poop) or anything related to it (farts). Any other time it's open discussion. And if the opportunity arises to put your behind up against a loved one and let one rip, do it! (This really pertains to me and Joe. Sara's more secretive.) Well tonight we were sitting at the dinner table eating and all of a sudden out of nowhere I let one go. It was a soft one but of course it happened as soon as we quit talking so it was quiet enough to hear it. I didn't mean to. It just slipped out. Sara and I both had a mouth full of food and we were cracking up laughing. Joe was going on about how I broke the one dinnertime rule and I was laughing too hard with food in my mouth to hear what else he said. We all got tummy aches from laughing so hard. I've been a little gassy tonight so my goal it to give one directly to Joe tonight. heeheehee <---evil laugh.

Square Root Day

Today is Square Root Day! 3/3/09. For those of you who don't know, the square root of 3 is 9. A silly day but gives us a reason to celebrate. I think I will cut my sandwich into squares for these festivities. I found this article about today. Enjoy!
