Girl Scouts

Yesterday was our annual GS leaders banquet. It was at one of our SU ('service unit' meaning neighborhood) home. She has a very lovely home with an extensive coca-cola collection. It's almost like a museum and you don't want to touch anything. We were set up on the back patio by the pool and landscaping. It's like a picture from a dream home magazine. But anyways, my post isn't mainly about this home but more of the banquet. At this annual banquet we are recongized with awards and such. I made sure my new-this-year co-leader was recongized and my cookie mom. And what a surprise but I was recongized as an outstanding leader! I got this cool pin: I also got a little certificate with why I was nominated a recipient (I'm an awesome leader--duh!). This award is neat because my SUM (service unit manager) had to get approval from council before they could honor me with it. I know it's something little but I think it's pretty neat-o. All of us at the banquet received a magnet for our cars that says "I heart being a GS leader." I'm wondering how long mine will last on my car before Sara steals it. Not because she wants it but because she's in that stage of being embarressed about being a girl scout. When these magnets first came out a few years ago she refused to let me buy it for myself and told me she would destroy it if I did. So I didn't. I pick and choose my embarressing moments for her and this one wasn't worth it.lol. Hopefully this embaressment phase will go away sooner rather than later. Some of the girls who are in high school and have graduated as GS say that this stage does pass. I figure being a GS is good learning experiences plus helps the community. With these opportunites and Sara's involvement with the Humane Society, maybe she'll score some scholarships!?!

Socks

It's been a while since I've shared my socks with you. It's because it's flip-flop season! Last night I had my Girl Scout meeting and we decided to do something fun. We tie-dyed socks! We did this with permanent markers and alcohol. The girls had a blast and the socks came out sooooooo cool looking. See here are mine:

I love my crazy socks but I only wear them a few months of the year. I prefer my flip-flops. But I think these are the coolest socks I own now. All because I made them.

Cookies Here, Cookies There

I am a Girl Scout leader. Right now it's pre-sale time of GS cookies. At the meeting last week I asked each girl to make a goal of how many boxes they are going to sell. A realistic goal. Each girl gave me their realistic goal except my daughter. Why is it always the leader's daughter who is the PITA in the troop? Sara pops out with a goal of 297 boxes. Now normally that would actually be ok with me. In the past we have sold 200+, even 250+ boxes (on our own not counting when we stand at the grocery store selling the boxes.) But this year Sara is embarressed to be a GS. I know its the age and it will pass (I hope!) so she is refusing to sell at school which I think could be a good jackpot of sales! Since I have the "in" with the office staff and all her teachers I told her I would even take care of it. She won't even allow me to sell GS cookies at school. So she is expecting me and Joe to do most the work. HA! Kids are funny aren't they? Of course I want her to reach her goal not only because she's my daughter but the troop wants to take a "big" trip in a few years and if the girls don't sell, sell, sell, they won't be taking as "big" of a trip as they hope. So we'll see how this goes. The only thing keeping me from stressing my behind off is that I have another GS mom keeping track of troop sales. Being leader is tough enough with six 13 year olds!

PS-if you are local to me and want to book your GS cookie order, comment me here.
PPS-Pictured above are the Tagalongs which are my fa-av-verite cookie! Yum! (Just in case you didn't know. hehe)

Breast Cancer Walk

Today I brought my Girl Scouts to the 3 day breast cancer walk where we volunteered. This is our 3rd year volunteering there and the girls had a great time. They were even asking how old they need to be to actually walk the 60 mile, 3 day walk! (They need to be 16 so we still have a few more years.) Here's a few pictures:

My friend Tara walked in the walk. This is her 3rd year walking it. She is truly amazing as are all the people who walk in this event.

Girl Scouts

Tonight I had my GS (Girl Scouts) meeting. Sara had basketball so she didn't attend. The girls finally decided on a big trip destination and it will either be a Carribean cruise or an Alaskan cruise. Depends on how much they can fundraise and save. A good start to our goal. Crissy (my co-leader who I love!) and I developed a points chart where the girls can earn points for the participation. And not just for attending meetings but for participating in GS fundraisers, community service, working on GS at home on their own. One mom had an issue because her girl doesn't attend many meetings because she plays soccer. So we were trying to explain that it's not all about attending meetings. But after the past year with lack of participation (except the "fun" troop funded events) I'm over it. If the girls don't make effort to participate with GS related stuff outside of meetings, it's their loss. I'm going to focus on the girls that do want to participate and have fun and make that effort. My drama mom whom I haven't seen at all this year I don't know what to do with her. If her girl doesn't show for our community service event Saturday like she says she will then I'm dropping her from the email list. Probably. Why waste my time with the ones who say they want to do it but then never do? Whatever! I volunter my time so why should I waste it on the slackers?

So anyways, I'm pleased with out this year is going so far. I'm really glad Crissy joined me in the leadership role. It's nice to have a partner in crime...I mean... partner in planning. heehee.

It's time for my shopping group grab for October. Gotta run!

Friday Night Fun

Tonight we went to the club for Friday night cookout. Joe and Joey played golf and my nephew joined us too, with his mom and dad (my sister and her bf.) Joe had too many jack & cokes and even had the nerve to try to give a sip to Jayden! OMG I thought my sister was going to kill him! Sara and I were yelling at him. He was buzzing but that's no excuse. Sara took Jayden away from him and I took his drink away from him. After a while it was time to leave since Jayden was getting tired and it was getting close to 9pm. Since the boys got there earlier to play golf, me, Jenn, Eric, Sara and Jayden left and we thought Joe and Joey were behind us. We get back to the house and they didn't show up for another hour. Joey comes in for a glass of water because Joe vomited on Joey's feet. At least it was outside so no mess to clean up for me. Jenn and Eric left since it was already after 10pm. Joey informs me he drove home (thank god since Joe and his "I'm ok to drive" talk before I left the club. He said he took back roads cuz he could tell Joe wasn't doing too well. He had to pull over twice and the sad thing is the club is only 3 miles away from home. Joey cleaned up Joe after he vomit in the driveway and put him straight to bed. I've seen Joe drunk several times but this is the second time I've seen him sloppy-vomiting drunk and we've been together 4 years! He gets quite annoying when he's buzzed so since he is passed out at least I knew I would have a peaceful evening. Especially since I had schoolwork to complete. {{{{{shaking my head}}}}} Joe will be feeling good tomorrow. HA!

I have a busy day tomorrow: bowling at 9am for Sara's fundraiser for our Europe trip. Then meeting my Girl Scout co-leader for lunch to discuss GS stuff. Then...well I guess that's it. And of course school work in the mix too.

I'm going to finish watching Transformers. This movie is awesome! I want a lifesize transformer to drive me around!

Nighty-nite!
